    4. Wed, Nov 7 – Parent-Teacher Conferences
    5. Wed, Nov 14 – Faculty Meeting & Salman Khan at Pomona
    6. Thur, Nov 22 – Thanksgiving Break
    7. Thur, Nov 29 – Science Department Meeting

  1. Professional Development
    1. CSTA Share (Craig & Karalyn)- K: Stanford Design School, went with Faulkner to check out the place. C: Who NGSS people were, the next generation science standards, things are headed in the right direction, completely aligned with Math, social studies, language...not using inquiry as a word, but emphasizing inquiry with 8 points...
    2. Dr. Kenneth Wesson- Agenda was emailed prior...we need to email Anna Gaiter for numbers.
    3. Salman Kahn- you have to ask for a few hours of PD to go to Cal Poly Pomona

  1. Science Department Handbook
    1. Full update is complete (excluding the Science Department Mission Statement)- it might stay as is for now, ready to go for WASC
    2. Have your handbook in your classroom- so we can insert changes, such as tabs.

  1. Formal Observations
    1. October 22 – November 15, 2012- Ongoing right now...meeting in Rob's room at 7:45 prior to observation hour.
    2. Sign up in BioHaz (Per 1 or Per 2)
    3. Pre-observation meetings will occur on the morning of the observed lesson

  1. AP Physics B (to be changed to two yearlong courses)-

    1. This change will cause us to re-examine our sequence of course offerings- we need to start thinking about changing our course offerings...now it's a two year course. Take into account the 7th period schedule.

    1. BioHaz Expenses- we are waiting for clarification on procuring refreshments...official from administration. We are waiting for clarification on food for meetings.

Faculty Room Discussion:

  1. Usage of the collaboration room...Frank's view of using the main Faculty room vs. science faculty room...Bouma vehemently against this, it's a step in the wrong direction.

  1. Revision of the Science Department Mission Statement
    1. “The aim of Loyola High School’s Science Department is for all of our students to acquire the knowledge and skills of empirical inquiry so that they may better understand and live responsibly in the world God creates.”
