A's and B's parents cannot request a conf. on Parent/teacher night
Dept. meeting coming up quick due to Thanksgiving.
Keep in mind that it is close to Open House and travel arrangements need to be made so you are back on Sunday.

NOTES:
  • Cagnio- demo of concave mirror and optical illusion
  • Gatfield-students coming into class checking things out even though they are not in the class
  • Utley- video projects on A & P, with short explanation, presentation with a Q and A afterwards.
  • Picard-unit on molecules and cells-poster presentations- you find out something about their views-catalysts, enzymes and being able to articulate their conclusions. Great feedback mechanism so that he can see
  • Lew-AP Physics-ramping up labs for the kids, since they come in with more prior knowledge. Challenge labs-points that go towards their final. Level of engagement and detail is high. Asking more inquisitive questions.
  • Gorr-Flubaroo-Google docs using students' smartphones, taking quizzes using their phones using Google docs to take the quiz outputting to databases and Gorr's key...success in the devices
  • Kwan-Lew's script to drop grades into Zangle-Flip teaching success, initial units. Assignments are done front loaded and when the kids watch a screencast then he will check for understanding with a quick clicker quiz. Positive results.

  • Qazi-Chapter Challenge success doing the challenge before exam, projects are at a higher level
  • Bouma-lab success, Craig had to take days off and giving a sub an actual lab that they had to do and students were trained to do the work.

  1. Laboratory Safety Guru (Brian) – Lesson two
NOTES:
Negligence- a four legged stool
  • A duty to care-we look after their safety
  • Injury, accident

Our duty of care- have to warn students adequately, if not, you are liable, within reason
Handout-by doing simple things, you can reduce risk. For ex. documentation (proof that you have instructed and warned), maintaining equipment, warning before doing the lab, safety contract
If you can make an activity safer by modifying the activity, then do so.
