Science Department Welcome Back Meeting Thursday August 20, 2015 H103 – BioHazard Meeting Room
I. Electronic communication
- Shared Google calendar - Share Google calendar with BioHaz collaboration and NSTA dates (Fawzia has the first month).
(birthdays, BioHaz collaboration mornings, conferences…) - Chemventory (Thank you Kimberly!!!) - Electronic inventory via Flinn - all science dept. members will receive an invite - can view our inventory, SDS sheets are part of the inventory as well, can see the safety info. Chemicals stored in other areas should be added to the database as well.
- PD Development Plans / Template - Will be sent last year's PD plans can look at them and update - due to Rick Nov.1st
- Meeting Friday August 28th Agenda - 7:15am - will send email reminder
II. All Freshman are talking Physics!!!
- Freshman Mini Schedule Monday Freshman - mini schedule on Monday - will all be in Physics on Monday
III. First day
- NOS Activity / Active Inquiry / Critical Thinking - Course Documents (syllabus and safety) First day activities - meet with subgroups tomorrow AM - first day models active inquiry, critical thinking, etc. NOS activities - be sure to email Fawzia the first day activities, syllabus, safety, etc. NOS activities - beyond the scope of subgroups - Freshman - building paper towers, Sophomore - mystery cubes, Juniors/Seniors - mystery tubes
IV. New Schedule
- Pacing Guidelines - common exams if teaching the same course - common experience and similar difficulty level and average grades, etc. Careful on our pacing / covering the same amount of content - chunking activity in how to design lesson plans, populate the pacing guide google doc, etc.
- Sharing rooms - Sharing rooms with the new schedule - Master grid of the science department schedule was sent via email
- Learning walks (period 2,3,4) - Fawzia preps are 2,3,4 - will be doing learning walks, etc.
V. Update Course Catalogue
Give Fawzia changes to pass along to Andrey for new course descriptions.
